The Sheffield Undergraduate Research Experience Network recently funded us to support six students to work on the SunbYte project for a period of six weeks this summer. They give grants to interdisciplinary research teams across the university, our project being no exception with students working on the project from various departments.
We’re excited to announce that we are one of seventeen projects that the Alumni Fund has generously supported with funding! Many thanks to the committee and donors.
We are participating in the Sheffield Festival of Science & Engineering happening this month. Next week, members of our team are going to schools in Doncaster to spread the knowledge.
An article titled “Stars in their eyes” was published in the 13th issue of MechEngNews, giving a brief overview of the Project Sunbyte.
We are striving towards a proof of concept for our design. The gears and telescope support are made in a first phase from plywood which will allow mounting the electrical equipment and start experimenting!
A selection of team members have attended this morning a constructive meeting with the Vice President for Education, Professor Wyn Morgan. We presented the project and our goals and got support and feedback.
Besides the feedback for the Preliminary Design (PDR), our team members took part in an intensive schedule of lectures and workshops near Munich at DLR site Oberpfaffenhofen !
